Fees & Insurance

Fees

Fees for psychotherapy and psychological testing that are covered by health insurance in Germany are specified by the Gebührenordnung für Psychotherapeuten (GOP).  For individuals who have private insurance, the initial diagnostic clinical assessment covered cost is € 123,33; and the covered cost for one hour of psychotherapy (typically a 50-60 minute session) is €100,55.  If you have questions about fees for services, please contact Dr. Suerken directly.

Fees for psychological evaluation services vary depending on the reason for the referral, the tests that are needed to address the referral question(s), and the time needed for evaluation, report writing, and for feedback.  However, fees are always discussed with the client prior to doing the evaluation so that the client can make an informed decision on how to proceed.

Please contact Dr. Suerken at +49 (0)176 6158 9645 if you have questions or are interested or in need of a Psychological Evaluation.

Insurance

In Germany, if you private insurance (i.e., whether from a German company or an international insurance from a country outside of Germany), you, instead of your mental health provider, must submit your bill for reimbursement of mental health services to your insurance company.  Patients with private health insurance in Germany are responsible to pay their mental health provider rather than the health insurance company.  For individuals with health insurance policies from insurance companies outside of Germany, mental health services may be covered in full or in part by health insurance if there is an out-of-network benefit.

It can be helpful for you to know whether you will receive reimbursement for mental health services from your insurance company.  Therefore, you should check your coverage carefully by contacting your health insurance provider and/or asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for out-of-network providers?

Billing & Payment

Your bill is provided at the end of each month.  Again, if you have private health insurance, you should submit your bill to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.  Those who are self-paying or who have private insurance have 30 days to remit payment of invoices via bank transfer as specified on the invoice.  Cash is accepted in the office and you can receive a receipt for cash payments.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule your scheduled appointment, you must call at Dr. Suerken at 0176 6158 9645 within two-business days prior to your scheduled appointment time.  Failure to do so will result in a fee of two-thirds the cost of your normal session fee, and insurance companies usually do not reimburse this fee.
